This work began with a visit to Mozambique, more specifically to Ilha de Moçambique, which, due to its rich history, architecture and mystical beauty, aroused my interest in artistic exploration.
Mozambique Island, with just 4km of coastline, was for 400 years the largest intercontinental maritime mercantile center, a trading port on the route from Europe to the Indian Ocean, with strong Arabic, Indian and Portuguese architectural influences mixed in. This haven was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.

From the invisibility of the imaginary that I visualise, the trace of each being in movement. The traces of what passes, the trail that can’t be seen but remains.
I observed various cultural, historical and architectural factors through graphic and photographic records.
I was interested in exploring two specific themes: one focused on the human figure, clothing, customs, daily rituals, insects and the surrounding atmosphere. I highlight insects, more specifically mosquitoes because, although around 70 percent of the island’s population is infected with the HIV virus, the main cause of death here is malaria. So, a mosquito, from its insignificant appearance, has an exalted status.
